Jamal kidnap
4 suspects' movable property seized

Police yesterday seized the movable property of four suspects in the kidnap of businessman Jamal Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury.

The Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), following attachment orders from a magistrate, raided the houses of Yunus Babu and Mohammad Shafi of Rawzan, Mohammad Ishaq of Hathazari and Mohammad Nazim of Anwara and seized their properties.

All the four, reportedly associated with the ruling four-party alliance, remained absconding since Jamal was abducted 39 days ago.

The CMP meanwhile has transferred two more police officers to other stations for their "failure" in rescuing Jamal. They are additional assistant commissioner (SB) SA Faruqui and OC of Panchlaish police station Obaidul Huq.

Our Staff Correspondent from Chittagong reports: BNP's high command reportedly created pressure on its local parliamentarian to help rescue Jamal. Jamal's family members had been accusing Sarwar Jamal Nizam and his younger brother of masterminding the abduction.

the Malibagh level crossing at Rampura Road.

Underground power lines of the sub-station went out of order on August 6, resulting in severe loadshedding. Desa watchmen spotted the problem on August 8, but repair work could not start until August 19 after the arrival of Desa-appointed foreign experts.
