BSS, Joypurhat
Authorities have decided to transfer the case of police arms looting by the members of Jama'atul Mujahidin at Uttar Moheshpur of Khetlal in the district to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) soon. The decision was taken to transfer the case to CID from the Detective Branch (DB) of police due to inter-district and inter-regional nature of the case, a senior police officer said yesterday. Meanwhile, a two-member CID team comprising DIG of CID Abdul Mannan and special superintendent of CID Akhter Ali completed their first round mission in Joypurhat yesterday and left for Dinajpur in the afternoon for investigating the case. The team also visited the shrine of Astanga-e-Chistia at village Begungram under Kalai upazila of Joypurhat where five people were killed on the night of January 20 this year. They along with the members of parliament from Joypurhat-1 and Joypurhat-2 constituencies Alhaj Abdul Alim and Alhaj AUM Khalilur Rahman held a meeting with Police Superintendent of Joypurhat Abdul Jalil Mandol yesterday. Jama'atul Mujahidin militants are suspected to be involved in the incident and one of the top leaders of the outlawed outfit, Anwar Sahadat, the prime accused in the case, was arrested from Uttar Moheshpur in Joypurhat after the gunfight. CID sources said that involvement of the Jama'atul militants in the killing of five at Astana-e-Chistia has become clear and steps will be taken against the criminals soon. "We have now decided to take necessary steps to hand over the case to CID for getting better results. We are still trying our best to recover the looted arms and ammunition and wireless set as also to nab the militants," police said.
