Internship honorarium
Md. Naved Ferdaus Iqbal, BBA, The University of Asia Pacific
The increasing number of business graduates in the last couple of years have necessitated more internship opportunities from associated organisations. And some organisations are taking advantage of this surplus supply of internship candidates. There are some big companies in the country that grant internship to business students without the courtesy to pay any honorarium as a recognition for the services the interns render to the organisations. Companies argue that interns don't come to much help and internship opportunity is just a favour they're doing to the business students. But the fact is that these companies get their jobs, assignments and even some research works are done by the interns. Without them, these companies would have had hired personnel with salary. This would have cost them quite a lot. Some companies don't pay interns any honorarium, let alone the minimum wage, to uphold a mean organisational culture. I think this practice should be stopped
