Interview
Abu Sayeed talks about Kitton Khola

The Daily Star: You received the national film award recently for a film, which got awards in nine categories. How do you feel about it?

Abu Sayeed: Yes, the film Kitton Khola bagged nine awards. Since the 80s, I am involved in making short films and two of them received the national award but this is my first feature film to get an award. I think I have been well rewarded for my work.

TDS: You are a short filmmaker and you have made several dramas. How did the idea of making feature films come to you?

AS: When I was making short films, I also had the target of making feature films but finance was a problematic factor. I think every filmmaker has a dream of working on the big screen, to make a feature film.

TDS: Why did you choose the subject of village life?

AS: It might be because of my mental involvement with village life. In this mechanised world, we have very little opportunity to see the village. Perhaps after 15/20 years we shall not even get to see the ordinary boats again. On the other hand, my short film Aborton was about the urban life.

TDS: Do you think that filmmakers are inspired when these off-the-track films are awarded?

AS: Certainly, the filmmakers do get the inspiration and the tendency of producing such films is on the increase.

TDS: What is your next work?

AS: I am preparing the script for my next film and it will bear a complete reflection of my own thinking.
