BTRC petitions for stay on HC Division order regarding JTV

The Bangladesh Telecomm-unications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) yesterday filed a petition with the Supreme Court for a stay on the operation of a High Court Division order that had directed the BTRC to dispose of within a month the Jamuna Television (JTV)'s application for allocation of terrestrial and satellite frequencies.Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Mohammad Hamidul Huq heard submissions on the petition made by Attorney General AF Hasan Ariff. The BTRC move appears to be the precursor to filing of a leave-to-appeal petition to overturn the High Court Division verdict on the JTV case delivered on August 26. The court set September 16 for a ruling on the matter.
