The organisation was formed at a meeting of media workers, representatives from women's organisations, academicians, cultural activists and members of the civil society at the Women's Voluntary Association auditorium here.

A 7-member convening committee was constituted with noted litterateur and Director of Bangla Academy Selina Hussein as the convenor. The members include Mohammed Jahangir, Executive Director, Centre for Development Communication, Dr Giti Ara Nashrin, Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and Fauzia Khandkar, Deputy Director of Proshika. Three other members will be co-opted later.

The organisation will work for creating public awareness against the negative exposure of the women in various mass media and in advertisements using women as commercial commodities.
