Preparations are underway to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of Rajshahi University (RU) in December this year.

The university authorities have earmarked a budget of Tk 87 lakh for its golden jubilee celebration.

A few committees have been formed to celebrate the jubilee programme.

The university has so far conferred graduation and post-graduation degrees to three lakh students.

Three hundred researchers secured M Phil degree and 200 others obtained Ph D degree from the university since its inception on July 6, 1953.

The occasion will provide scopes for many former students to meet again.

The university authorities will recall contributions of Mother Bux and Emarat Hossain Zuberi.

Mother Bux, a former renowned lawyer and a member of the then legislative assembly of undivided Bengal initiated to establish the university.

Emarat Hossain Zuberi as the first vice chancellor of the university strove for its advancement.

Initially, students could study here in Bangla, English, History, Philosophy, Mathematics and law and classes were held in Rajshahi Government College while the Philosophy Department was housed in a building of the River View School near the circuit house till shifting of the campus to Motihar.
