Article on the history of BNP

The Daily Star published an article on history of BNP on September 1in recognition of 25 years of BNP's formation. However, the research behind the article was incomplete and it lacked details.

The following information was missing in your article possibly due to the lack of research. As the son of the person in question, I feel that my father's name and contribution to the party and the nation as a whole should not be omitted. One does not have the right to re-write history as one may assume it. Whether we agree or disagree is our choice. As a journalist, it is a professional duty to report not to express opinion unless it is an article of opinion such as editorial.

My father, Late Mr. ASM Mostafizur Rahman was a key advisor to both late President Zia and Begum Zia. His contribution to the formation of BNP is well known to all. He was the man responsible for founding Chhatra Dal. Also as the Home Minister to President Zia, he was responsible for creating a society with better law and order for the citizens of the country. Upon the unfortunate death of President Zia, he became the focal point to bring stability to the country and continue our democratic process. He stood by President Sattar to keep the country in the democratic process and not return to martial law. After the coup by Ershad, he was one of the only few people who remained loyal to President Zia's ideal and continued the struggle to restore democracy in Bangladesh. When, no one wanted to become the Secretary General of the party in fear of intimidation by the military rulers, he became the Secretary General of the Party. He stood by Begum Zia and became one of her closest advisors in the fight for democracy during the nine-year of martial law. His contribution as the foreign minister of Bangladesh bought the country international recognition and respect. Until his death in 1996, he remained a member of the BNP standing committee. His contribution toward the people of Bangladesh especially the south western part of Bangladesh is appreciated by most people in the region.

Therefore, it would not be right to omit such a person from the history of BNP or the nation as a whole.
