Non-govt pry teachers on hunger strike

Non-governmental primary school teachers from across the country yesterday began a 24-hour hunger strike at the Osmani Udyan in Dhaka, demanding nationalisation of their jobs.

The hunger strike began at 3:00pm and will continue till 3:00pm today.

Prior to the hunger strike, a rally was held at Muktangon with President of Bangladesh Non-governmental Primary School Teachers' Association Shamsul Alam in the chair.

The association leaders told the rally that Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had earlier promised to nationalise the jobs of non-governmental primary school teachers, but the government has not yet taken any steps to fulfil the promise.

The teachers threatened to launch a greater movement if their demand was not met by today.
