As three robbers were proceeding towards the cash counter and vault, the security guard and other bank staffers challenged them at around 1:00pm.

Sensing danger, the bank manager pressed the alarm, prompting the staff to chase the robbers and caught one of them, Mohammad Farhad alias Hannan.

On tip-off, Shyampur police rushed to the spot and took Hannan into custody. Hannan later confessed to police that they had come to rob the bank.

He added that his two accomplices were Abdur Rouf alias Rob and Shah Alam.

Police, quoting Hannan, also said seven to eight others including Pasha Chowdhury, Sohel and Babu were waiting near the bank entrance with firearms to assist them.

Manager of the bank AAM Ferdous filed a case with Shyampur Police Station yesterday evening.
