Songs of the yesteryears by Srijon


When Sadi Mohammad started singing Money Ki Didha Rekhe Gele Choley, it was well received and applauded by the audience. He sang one after another Ami Jharer Kachhey, Jakhon Porbe Na Mor, Kono Ak Gayer Badhur, Muchhey Jawa Dinguli and Shurjo Dobar.

Cultural organisation Srijon organised a cultural evening at the Bishwa Shahitya Kendra as part of their regular monthly programme of songs of yesteryears. The director of the organisation Nurul Islam Polash told this reporter that besides songs of Tagore, Nazrul, Atulprashad and D. L Roy, many folk songs and songs of yesteryears are performed with equal enthusiasm. He said, 'These programmes are arranged to especially inspire the new generation to hold on to the old tracks, which are the soul of our Bangla songs.' The principal of the South Breeze School was also present on the occasion.

Besides Sadi Mohammad, ATM Jahangir performed Tagore songs like Shakarun Benu Bajay Ke Jay and Aloy Amol Kamol Khani. Bijon Chandra Mistri sang Nazrul and Sardar Md Rahmatullah rendered folk songs and other singers like Shankar Kumar Paul, Tawhidul Islam and Rumana Khan performed songs of yesteryears. The audience enjoyed the show thoroughly.
