Moazzem Hossain Howlader was also fined Tk 20,000 or to spend two more years behind bars if he failed to pay the fine.

Tribunal Judge Md Abdul Quddus Mia gave the verdict under the Prevention of Repression on Women and Children Act.

Shiuli Akhter, 13, of village Kokila and a student of class seven of Nalchity Merchant School in Jhalakati, was going to her uncle's house on October 3, 2002 when Moazzem called her for treatment and abducted her.

Police rescued Shiuli from Palashpur of Barisal on November 4 this year. But they could not nab Moazzem, who raped her several times since the abduction.

Jahanara Begum, mother of the victim, filed a case against Moazzem with Nalchity Police Station and Sub-inspector Kazem Ali Munshi pressed charges against him on February 16 this year. The case was transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal, Barisal on May 11 this year.

The verdict came after examining 13 witnesses within 14 working days.
