Ruling coalition accused of using religion

Opposition Leader and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina yesterday alleged that the ruling coalition is using religion for political purpose.

"The BNP-Jamaat led four-party alliance government uses Islam as part of political strategy and for power politics," she said at a meeting organised by Bangladesh Sufi Majlish at Engineers' Institution with Dr Anisul Haq in the chair.

Hasina criticised the government's nomination for the post of secretary general of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and apprehended that if the candidate of Bangladesh wins the post, ongoing conflict among the Muslims in the world will expand further.

She urged everyone to launch tough resistance against the misrule and misdeeds of the government.
