3 BCL leaders get life for killing JCD leader

A court here yesterday sentenced three leaders of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) to life imprisonment for killing a leader of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) seven years ago.M Ataur Rahman, judge of the Additional District and Sessions Judge;s Court-2, delivered the judgement against BCL leaders Shihab Uddin, Belal and Mahmudul Haq and also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default, they are to suffer six more months in jail. According to the prosecution, some 24 people, including the convicts, hacked Sumon to death with sharp weapons while he was returning home after attending a janaza of a neighbour on June 23,1996. Police pressed charges against the BCL men, acquitting 21 others of the muder charge.
