Seminar on non-lethal weapons concludes

The three-day multinational seminar on 'Non-Lethal Weapons', jointly organised by the Bangladesh Armed Forces and the United States Marine Forces Pacific, concluded yesterday.The seminar was held at the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training at Rajendrapur Cantonment. Chief of the Naval Staff Rear Admiral Shah Iqbal Mujtaba attended the concluding session as chief guest and distributed certificates among the participants. Speaking on the occasion, Admiral Mujtaba stressed the need for evolving ways of wars, which are less destructive to mankind and environment. He also suggested the use of non-lethal weapons, now gaining popularity among military and civil law enforcement agencies. A total of 38 military officers from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, USA and host Bangladesh took part in the seminar. It was organised to improve the ability of the armed forces to conduct humanitarian assistance programmes like relief and peace-keeping operation missions. The US marines and the Bangladesh squad also conducted a practical demonstration on non-lethal weapons. Chief of the General Staff of Bangladesh Army Major General S M Iqramul Haque and other high military and civil officials were also present.
