AL holds meeting of edn secys

The Awami League (AL) held a daylong meeting of its education secretaries from across the country yesterday as part of its preparation for mid-term polls, party sources said.

Speaking to 41 out of 69 such office-bearers from organisational districts, party chief Sheikh Hasina asked them to work for building alliance with other progressive parties and take preparations for a movement for snap polls.

AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil told The Daily Star that the meeting continued from 11:00am to 4:30pm with a one hour lunch break at the party's Dhanmondi office.

The party asked them to keep a vigil on politicisation of the managing committees of ward, upazila and thana-level educational institutions.

The education secretaries were reminded that the district committees must not be president-centric or general secretary-centric units, rather individual office bearers should play their responsibilities.

Party sources said similar meetings of agriculture and industries secretaries were also on the cards.
