India walk away with carrom crowns

Holders India clinched both the men's and women's team titles of the Seventh SAARC Countries Carrom Championship with all-win record on the second day of the four-day meet yesterday at the National Sports Council Gymnasium. Sri Lanka finished runnersup and Bangladesh Red team was placed third in the men's team event while Maldives became runnersup , Sri Lanka finished third and Bangladesh Green was placed fourth in the other category. The Indian men's team of RM Shankara, Ashok Gaur and Jagan Bengle, lifted the title beating Bangladesh Red, Bangladesh Green and Sri Lanka in straight games (3-0) and defeated Maldives 2-1. The Indian women's comprising D Swarnelatha, S Appoorva and K Suvarna outplayed Bangladesh Red, Bangladesh Green, Maldives and Sri Lanka each 3-0. Bangladesh Reds with Sheikh Jahangir Hossain, Hafizur Rahman and KG Humayan Kabir became third in the men's team event as they defeated the Greens and Maldives both 2-1. State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman witnessed some of the matches.
