China promises support to uplift plans

Vice-Chairman of the National People's Congress of China Jiang Zhenghua yesterday heaped praise on the policies and programmes of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), saying they were pragmatic, popular and suitable for the people of Bangladesh.

He also praised the programmes taken by the government of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and assured Bangladesh of increased Chinese support in implementing development programmes.

Zhenghua was addressing a meeting with the visiting leaders of BNP at the Great Hall of Peoples in Beijing, a BNP press release said.

BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan led the party delegation while Senior Joint Secretary General Tareque Rahman and Vice-Minister of International Department of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Dr Cai Wu spoke on the occasion.
