The recent fire at Narayanganj telephone exchange resulted from neglect of officials and staff of Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB).It was revealed by a probe committee in its report submitted to the BTTB chairman Saturday night. The chairman did not make the report public until yesterday. Sources at the BTTB said the committee has recommended punishment to those responsible for the incident. They said the incident was not an act of sabotage. The fire brigade arrived about an hour and a half after the fire broke out and found the exchange locked. The firefighters entered the exchange through a window of the main distribution frame (MDF) section. They did not find any evidence of sabotage either in the MDF room or any other section. The probe body concluded that high voltage of electricity was the most likely cause behind the fire.
