Robbery bid foiled in Pallabi, gang decamps with loot in Rampura

Three robbers were caught during a robbery bid at city's Pallabi while three others decamped with looted cash and valuables worth Tk 2.44 lakh from a house at Rampura yesterday, police said.Sources said a gang of four robbers rang the doorbell of Dr Motiur Rahman Chowdhury's second floor flat at 17/5, Pallabi Residential Area at 11:30am. As the domestic help opened the door, the robbers stormed into the house, took Dr Rahman hostage at gunpoint and forced his wife Salma Chowdhury to hand over Tk 1000 and some gold ornaments. Meanwhile, residents of the neighbouring flat, sensing the ongoing robbery, raised alarm following which locals rushed to the scene and caught three of the robbers. Locals beat up the three men before handing them over to police. The arrested robbers are Zahidur Rahman, son of a retired army subedar Motahar Ali of Mirpur section-12, block-Dha, Mohan, son of Hemayet Sikder of the same area, and Nurul Islam, son of Wadud Munshi of Mirpur section-1, block-C. Another alleged robber, Kamrul Islam, managed to flee with some gold ornaments. A revolver, two rounds of bullets, a machete and Tk 1,000 were recovered from the arrested. A case was filed with Pallabi Police Station. The arrested will be produced before the court today, police said. Earlier, four armed robbers entered the house of Abdullahel Maruf at 75/2, East Rampura cutting the grill of the kitchen window at 3:30am yesterday, and looted cash, a mobile phone, gold ornaments and CDs worth Tk 2.44 lakh at gunpoint. A case was filed with Khilgaon Police Station. None could be arrested till filing of this report last night.
