Activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Jahangirnagar University unit, burned a bus of Sohagh Paribahan on Saturday night after its staff beat up their leader. The angry activists also vandalised about 10 buses on the Dhaka-Aricha highway and put up a barricade on the highway at around 10:30pm disrupting traffic movement for three hours. Harun-ur-Rashid, general secretary of JU JCD, was beaten up by a group of over 15 staffs of the Sohagh Paribahan ticket counter at Savar at around 10.00pm. They also stabbed him in his left eye following a row over the return of ticket money. On Thursday, Harun booked a ticket of the bus for Friday but cancelled the journey later. The row erupted when Harun demanded his money back on Saturday. Meanwhile, the JCD activists gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the authorities demanding punishment to the person responsible for the attack and payment of compensation to Harun.
