Spectra Convention Centre: Meeting the 21st century requirements

The newly built Convention Centre at the city's aristocratic locale, Gulshan-1; over a space of one bigha hosted a stylish cultural evening with prominent artistes of the town.The banquet place, "Queen's Hall" of 1,800 square feet is equipped with the ideal auditorium structure. Having a ceiling height of 20 feet, soundproof interior, and surrounds sound system; assembling it to be an appropriate setting, it is competent of managing heavy sound. Dhaka was fortunate enough to enjoy the opening night of the centre by Sadi Mohammed and Fatema Tuz Zohra. Two hours of remarkable music, comprised Tagore, Nazrul, Folk, and Bengali Modern songs by the duo entertained a full house! Sadi started with few Tagore songs like Jokhon porbena mor and a small change with Country song, Ami Banglai gaan gai and later continued with Adhunik Bangla, paying a tribute to Hemanta Mukherjee, recollecting the memory of his death anniversary on September 26. Muche jawa din gulo, O nodi re and songs like Megh kalo adhar kalo were applauded. Another renowned artist Fatema then took the stage and delighted the audience with her opening song Rim jhim jhim the famous Nazrul Geeti. As the city experienced a heavy down pour, the song made the crowds cheer. She continued with her numbers of other Nazrul favorites; Shaon o raat e jodi, Dur dip o bashini and went onto cover Modern Bengali Songs, namely E shudhu gaan er din and the popular "Shutorang" film soundtrack Tumi ashbe bole. The musicians then moved onto performing duets, for instance, Shedin dujone one of the Tagore hits followed by Ei poth jodi na and finally wrapped up the evening with the very emotional Ei raat tomar amar, leaving the audience in high spirits. The Spectra Management, with Major MH Khan (Retd.) as the CEO, promised such occasions every month.
