Jamaica friendly
Parreira at full force

Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira on Monday named a 20-strong squad including a phenomenal strike force of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho Gaucho and Rivaldo for a football friendly against Jamaica on October 12.

Parreira, who is fine tuning the five-time world champions' lineup for the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, has opted for mostly European-based players for the tie in the English city of Leicester.

The only home player selected is Flamengo goalkeeper Julio Cesar, with the Brazil coach also announcing the surprise return of Lyon midfielder Juninho Pernambucano and Middlesbrough's Juninho Paulista, along with young Parma striker Adriano.

Perhaps the most astonishing call-up is that of Roque Junior, who has made a nightmare start to his career in the Premiership with Leeds United.

They have conceded 10 goals in three matches since he arrived on loan from AC Milan while the World Cup winning defender has also been redcarded.

World Cup winner Rivaldo, who agreed to stay with the European champions earlier on Monday, kept his place despite being stuck on the substitutes' bench at his Italian club AC Milan.

Parreira said Rivaldo had made the right decision to stay at AC Milan, who last week had agreed to cancel his contract.

If Rivaldo had left Milan and become a free agent, he would not have been able to play for a new club for three months.

Brazil face two World Cup qualifiers in November -- away to Peru and at home to Uruguay -- and a lengthy absence from club football could have put his international place in jeopardy.

"It's good for everyone, everyone wins," Parreira told a media conference.

Rivaldo looked short of match fitness when playing for Brazil earlier this month in their opening qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup.

Parreira also recalled winger Denilson, who had been left out for the 2-1 win in Colombia and 1-0 win over Ecuador.

Parreira added that he had considered picking veteran goalkeeper Taffarel, who announced his retirement this month, for a farewell international until hearing that the 37-year-old was not interested.

Taffarel played in the Brazil side which won the 1994 World Cup under Parreira.

"He likes to keep a low profile," said Parreira.

Brazil play Jamaica in Leicester on October 12.
