Police recovered a stolen high-frequency wireless set and arrested two people in the port city on Monday night. The wireless set was stolen from the District Relief and Rehabilitation Office the same night. The main part of the wireless set was recovered from a Notary Public office. The relief and rehabilitation office and the Notary Public office are housed in the same building. The arrested were identified as Rahmat Ullah alias Lemon, 28, and his uncle Aman Ullah Chowdhury, 50. Aman Ullah was placed on a three-day remand yesterday while Lemon was undergoing treatment at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital under police custody. According to sources, Lemon burgled into the relief and rehabilitation office on the second floor of Chittagong Court Building at around 10.00pm and decamped with some parts of the wireless set. He returned again to steal other parts of the wireless set, but night guard Abdul Motaleb and wireless operator Md Osman Gani caught him red-handed. Lemon was beaten up and handed over to police who later recovered a hand held loudspeaker and an antenna from a laundry shop at Ghat Farhadbeg under Kotowali thana. Aman Ullah is the owner of the laundry shop. Police arrested Aman Ullah for his alleged involvement in the theft. Acting on his statement, the police recovered the wireless machine from the office of Notary Public Salim Ullah. At the Kotowali police station, Aman Ullah told this correspondent that he also works as a peon-cum-stamp vendor at the office of Salim Ullah who is his brother.
