KMCH paralysed as staff go on indefinite strike

Patients at Khulna Medical College Hospital were put to suffer as the third and fourth class employees began an indefinite strike from yesterday to press for their three-point demand.

The employees enforced the strike as their five-day ultimatum to fulfil the demands that include full payment of arrears salaries and other financial benefits from March expired on September 30.

The demonstrators kept 86 rooms including the office of the principal of college locked to paralyse all hospital activities. They did not even allow doctors to attend to patients at the emergency ward.

The agitators drove out Principal Dr SM Zafrullah as soon as he entered his office at noon. They also went on to confine female students and Dr Jahanara Begum to a room until the police were called in.

High tension is prevailing on the campus despite the police deployment.
