Huge explosives seized from Sona Masjid land port

The Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) seized 875 kg of explosives from Sona Masjid land port here yesterday.The explosives were found in a bag seized from a private warehouse of Swadhin Enterprise located close to the border check post, said sources in the BDR that carried out the raid following a tip-off. A special BDR team raided the customs area where the warehouse is located and seized the explosives, which are said to be adequate to make powerful bombs. They also said some 90 kg of other raw materials, which customs officials said are ingredients for herbal medicine imported from across the border, were also seized from the warehouse. BDR sources said that on August 9 and September 12, some 200 kg of explosive materials were seized from the border check post as they were being smuggled into the country under the guise of herbal medicines. Samples of the seized materials were sent to Dhaka for identification. None were arrested till filing of this report last night.
