Kidnapped student yet to be returned by Indian police

A Bangladeshi college student, kidnapped by Indians from bordering Tahirpur area in the country and later rescued by Nagaland police, is yet to be returned.

Rafiqul Islam, a first year student of Jainal Abedin College in Tahirpur upazila headquarters, was kidnapped from Charagaon near the border on 19 July.

The kidnappers took him to Thalgahta in Meghalaya. Eliten and Milon, two members of Hajong tribe, sent a letter demanding Tk 15 lakh ransom from Rafiqul's father.

Rafiqul's father Abdul Mannan sent Tk 85,000 through some middlemen on two occasions.

Nagaland police rescued him from Dimapur a week ago and since then he is in police custody there, sources said.

BDR and BSF held a flag meeting recently at Charagaon but Rafiqul was not handed over to BDR.
