'Set up amusement parks, libraries for children'

Speakers at a discussion yesterday called for setting up of amusement parks and libraries for children. They said steps should be taken to stop child abuse as domestic help and allow them opportunities for going to school. The discussion titled 'Share and Learn' was organised by the Young Learner's Centre of the British Council for its members and the students of its partner schools and madrassahs on the occasion of Child Rights Week. The speakers urged the authorities concerned to take effective measures to stop teasing and trafficking of women and girl children. They also called for creating facilities for entertainment of the poor children. State Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mohammad Shajahan Omar attended the discussion as chief guest while Selim R S Hussain, chief financial officer of Standard Chartered Bank, as special guest. Assistant Director of British Council Heather Forbes also spoke at the inaugural session. Nasreen Begum, joint secretary of law, justice and parliamentary affairs ministry, James Jonnings, chief of child development and education of the Unicef and Mustafa Shiblee of Working for Better Life also took part in the discussion.
