Robbery at Singer showroom

Robbers looted cash and valuables worth about Tk one lakh from a Singer showroom at Tajmahal road in the city on Tuesday.A gang of four armed youths stormed into the showroom at about 5.15pm and held manager Shamser Ali and employee Lutfar Rahman hostage at gunpoint. There were no other persons in the showroom during the incident. The gang took away Tk 47,529 from the drawer, three cell phone sets and 26 phone cards worth about Tk 46,397. They also locked the two in the store room before leaving the scene. Some women shoppers who went to the Singer showroom sensed something wrong and informed the employees of nearby shops who rescued the two. A case was filed with Mohammadpur police.
