Khandker Fatema Begum, magistrate at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, has refuted a UNB report published in different newspapers on September 29. The magistrate said she did not salute but stayed sitting when Minister for Housing and Public Works Mirza Abbas entered her courtroom. The UNB report was also published in The Daily Star under the headline "Unprecedented salute indeed" that read: "Lawyers, court officials and litigants at a metropolitan magistrate's court were surprised when Magistrate Khandker Fatema Begum stood up and saluted Minister for Housing and Public Works Mirza Abbas, yesterday (September 28) as he appeared there as plaintiff of a defamation case." Following the news item, the magistrate issued a notice stating that the news was false and sought the name and address of the reporter concerned.
