He said the government has stepped up efforts for the development of information technology (IT) sector.

He said a high-tech park is being set up to attract private investment in the IT sector.

"There is no alternative to the development of IT sector to face the challenges of 21st century," Bhuiyan told the Inter-University IT Experts Conference here Wednesday night.

Presided over by Chairman of University Grants Commission Professor Asaduzzaman, the function was also addressed by members of the commission Prof Monirul Haque and Prof KM Mohsin.

The government after taking office has formulated a national information technology policy, Bhuiyan said, adding that an ICT incubator had been set up in Dhaka aimed at ensuring high-speed Internet connection.
