Political gatherings worsen traffic jam
A resident of Dhanmondi, Dhaka
What prompted me to write this letter is a three-hour frustrating experience in a traffic jam, thanks to the main opposition's public meeting on 22/9/03 during the rush hours.Ironically, rhetoric emanating from the meeting was all about how common people are suffering under the present party's rule. From Kalabagan northward toward the Mirpur road, the whole road was closed to facilitate the meeting. This resulted in severe congestion in just about every road in Dhanmondi. Suffering of the residents can not be explained in mere words and I will not bother readers with any elaboration as the very words traffic jam are too dreadful to our people. Recently, the ruling party held yet another meeting on a working day to celebrate their 25th founding anniversary. This event too created severe traffic jam along with the associated misery. Would our politicians care to refrain from holding public meetings on working days? This is an appeal to work in a bipartisan manner to build a better Bangladesh. While I speak for myself, I am sure many average citizens will join me to echo the same.
