AL activist shot dead in Khulna

An Awami League activist was gunned down by unidentified assailants near Daulatpur Sub Registrar's office on Thursday night.

The victim, Mushfiqur Rahman Mukul, 26, also a contractor by profession, came under attack at a tea stall at around 9:20pm.

According to witnesses, a gang of five stormed into the tea stall and sprayed bullets on Mushfique. He died on the spot.

A rickshawpuller, who was sitting at the stall, also received bullet wounds. He was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

Police picked up a young man, Nazrul Islam, for questioning.

Hossain Ahmed, younger brother of the slain AL activist, filed an FIR with Daulatpur Police Station yesterday.

The complainant has stated in the FIR that the murder is a sequel to previous enmity over financial matters. But he did not mention the names of the killers.

Awami League has strongly condemned the murder and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.
