Diarrhoea kills 7 more in Bogra and Lalmonirhat

Seven more people have died from diarrhoea and over 300 are suffering from the disease in Bogra and Lalmonirhat districts. Our Bogra correspondent reported that the disease killed three persons in the last two days and attacked another 140 in Sariakandi upazila. Sources at the civil surgeon's office said the dead are Momota, 10, daughter of Abdul Malak of Kalartir Village; Abdur Satter, 50, of Corbari and Mojam, 45, of Dharabarsha village. Seventeen of the patients have been admitted to Sariakandi upzilla health complex, they said. Our Lalminirhat correspondent reported that diarrhoea killed five people including a pregnant woman and attacked over 100 in Patgram upazila in the last four days. The dead are Rupali Begum, 10 and Nazimuddin, 50, of Sardar Para village under Patgram Pourasabha; Alauddin Mia, 65 and Touhidul Islam, 4, of Dhabolsuti village and the pregnant housewife Mariom Begum, 25, of Jalangi village. Sources at the district health department control however confirmed three deaths. They said 27 patientshave been admitted to patgram health complex and many others were treated there. Talking to this correspondent Civil Surgeon Dr Soharab Hossain Sarkar said seven medical teams are working in the affected areas. He said saline and other medicines are in short supply in the district. These should be sent from Dhaka on an emergency basis to contain spread of the disease, he added.
