Road mishap kills cop, injures magistrate


A policeman was killed and five others including a magistrate were critically injured in a road accident near Golakata bridge on the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway in Boraigram in Natore Tuesday morning.

Fatally injured Nayek Subhan Azad, 48, of Chapainawabganj police did at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). He was from Sarirbita village in Sujanagar upazila in Pabna.

The injured are magistrate Amirul Islam and policemen Abdus Salam, Abdul Alim, Manjurul Alam, and helper Jubayer, 18, all from Chapainawabganj.

They were unconscious at RMCH till filing of this report Tuesday evening.

The accident took place when a speedy truck from the opposite direction rammed their requisitioned vehicle at around 10am.

The driver of the vehicle of the Local Government and Engineering Department managed to flee.

They were going to Dhaka from Chapainawabganj to collect question papers for honours examination under the National University.

Two cases have been filed with Boraigram police station in Natore and Rajpara thana in Rajshahi.
