World Food Day today

World Food Day will be observed today in the country as elsewhere across the world with a call for international alliance in the fight against hunger.Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations observes the day on October 16 every year marking its inception on that day in 1945. This year's theme of the day is: "International Alliance Against Hunger". On the occasion, a national seminar will be held at BARC auditorium at 10am today. Agriculture Minister MK Anwar will inaugurate the seminar as chief guest while Food Minister Abdullah Al Noman and State Minister for Agriculture Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will attend it as special guests. President Iajuddin Ahmed, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan gave separate messages on the occasion.
