Programmes to observe Nov 7

The government has drawn up an elaborate programme to observe the National Revolution and Solidarity Day on November 7 with due respect and enthusiasm. The programme was finalised at a meeting yesterday at the Home Ministry with Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury in the chair. President Iajuddin Ahmed and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia will issue separate messages on the eve of the day. National flags will be hoisted atop all government and non-government buildings and roads and road-islands decorated with national flags. The government and non-government buildings will also be illuminated. The day will be a public holiday and it will be observed in a befitting manner, maintaining sanctity of the holy Ramadan, the meeting was told. Milad mahfils, special prayers and Iftars will be arranged at the mosques, seeking peace and progress of the nation. Prayers will also be offered at temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worships. The national dailies will publish essays and supplements highlighting the significance of the day and Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar broadcast special programmes.
