President of Sierra Leone arrives, talks today


Sierra Leone President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah arrived in Dhaka yesterday evening on a three-day official visit.

President Iajuddin Ahmed and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia greeted President Kabbah at Zia International Airport at 7:45pm.

Ministers, Dean of Diplomatic Corps Shahta Zarab, Sierra Leone Ambassador. Alarie Cole, chiefs of three services and senior officials were present at the airport.

President Kabbah calls on President Iajuddin Ahmed and holds official talks with Prime Minister Khaleda Zia today to discuss the entire gamut of bilateral matters as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

The Sierra Leone president will visit the National Memorial at Savar to pay respect to the martyrs of the country's War of Independence. He will also visit the Dhaka EPZ at Savar.

Dhaka-Freetown bilateral relation has deepened in recent years with the deployment of Bangladesh Army contingent in Sierra Leone under the UN peacekeeping mission.

At present, some 1,496 Bangladeshi troops are engaged in peacekeeping in the war-torn West African nation.
