Clarification
The High Commission of India in Dhaka in a press release contradicted parts of The Daily Star report headlined "Delhi to consult Dhaka after taskforce report", published on October 5.

India has not given any assurance of consulting the river-link project with Bangladesh, it said. The high commission also quoted the agreed joint minutes, as saying: "The issue of India's proposed river-linking project was raised by Bangladesh, in reply to which the Indian side stated that the proposal was only at a conceptual stage and that there was nothing to discuss on this matter."

India has also not given any assurance about the repair of revetments or embankments on the Muhuri river in Tripura, the press release said.

Our reply

The Daily Star story was based on the press conference of Water Resources Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed on his return from Delhi.
