Govt warns overseas job seekers of fraud

The Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment has asked job seekers not to contact any agent or pay any money to anyone for employment in Italy and Malaysia.

The ministry in separate press releases yesterday warned of possible fraud by recruiting agencies and some unscrupulous people.

Only 300 people would be recruited to Italy and aspirants have been asked to submit application by post to the lone recruiting agent DATCO, a release reads.

The agent will publish names of the selected candidates in newspapers on assessing applications. Only then they should give the service charges for migration, it said.

Bangladesh indeed signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) recently with Malaysia for resuming manpower export. But the two countries have not finalised numbers and category of workers yet, the other release stated.

The ministry issued releases in the wake of allegations that some dishonest people and agencies are receiving money and some clinics are conducting medical check-ups on job seekers to Malaysia.

The medical check-ups should be conducted only to those who have been selected, the release pointed out.
