Indians atop chess table

Indian Grand Masters Surya Shekhar Ganguly and Pentala Harikrishna were leading the Asian Zonal Chess Championship men's group table with 4.5 points apiece after the end of fifth round at the NSC conference room yesterday.In the round yesterday, Harikrishna beat Pakistan's Amir Karim while Ganguly defeated compatriot Bakre. In the day's other matches, Indian GM Avijit Kunte beat Bangladesh GM Ziaur Rahman, Indian Kidambhi beat Bangladesh GM Niaz Murshed, IM Reefat-bin-Sattar beat IM Enbamul Hossain Rajib while Nepal's Krishna Thapa beat Svothayan of Sri Lanka. In the women's group, Indian WGM S Minakshee moved atop the table with a victory over compatriot Esha Karavade in the seventh round. Minakshee has 6 points to her name. In the other matches of the day, Nisha Mohta beat Swati Ghate, Shabana Parveen Nipa beat Pakistan's Zenobia while Indian Arati Ramaswamy beat Zakia Sultana.
