Abu Sayed, owner of Shanta Group of Industries, was picked up by a gang shortly before noon. The abductors used his cellphone to call his family for Tk 10 lakh in cash for his release.

Police said they could trace Sayed's whereabouts in Comilla where he was kept in captivity and were trying to rescue him.

Details were, however, sketchy.
