Barisal BM College students go on rampage, demand removal of 2 teachers

The resident students of Barisal Government Brojomohan College went on a rampage on the campus demanding removal of two teachers for alleged irregularity, corruption and their misbehaviour with them on Tuesday.

They ransacked the office of the hall superintendent of Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall, his residential quarter and threw furniture and other goods in a pond.

Angry resident students brought out a procession on the campus and damaged the college auditorium before meeting college principal Professor Nurul Anwar.

Students, College administration and other related sources said that a group of resident students went to the office of Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall to discuss problems with hall super Professor Abul Kalam Azad of the Social Welfare Department and assistant hall super Professor Bellal Hossain of the History Department. But instead of giving a patient hearing to them the two teachers misbehaved with them.

At one stage Brojomohan College Students' Union leaders intervened and brought the situation under control.

F H Hall resident students alleged that the hall super and assistant hall super collected Tk 25 per head per month from 250 students in name of payment of money to extra hall staff. But actually they paid them only 50 per cent of the collected money and misappropriated the rest amount. They also netted fish from the hall's pond illegally and often misbehaved with them.

The resident students and BCSU leaders met the college administration on Wednesday morning and the principal individually in the afternoon.

According to the principal, the situation was created due to rough behaviour of the hall super and the situation was under control. He assured the agitating students that an inquiry committee would be formed and the students' demands would be considered after proper investigation.
