Dance fiesta enthralls northern audience

Chhonder Anande Milechhi Nrittye' (With the joy of rhythm have we come together)--with this slogan, a three-day dance festival concluded at Shilpakala Academy premises in the northern town of Bogra recently. Organised jointly by Creative Cultural Academy of Bogra and Bangladesh Dance Artistes' Association, the festival featured some renowned dance artistes like Munmun Ahmed, Dipa Khondokar and Saju Ahmed. Bangladesh Dance Artistes' Association president Rahijha Khanam Jhunu inaugurated the festival on the evening of October 15.

The festival drew a huge audience as a number of fresh but promising dance artistes from 12 organisations from Dhaka, one from Bogra and another from Rajshahi performed modern, folk, Kathak, Bharat Nattayam and different other classical dances during the festival.

On the concluding day on October 17, Nikkon Nrittya Shilpi Gosthi of Rajshahi staged six items of mixed Bharat Nattayam and various classical dances. Their presentation of a dance number clad in T-shirts carrying photos of the seven Beer Shrestha of the Liberation War enthralled the audience as they enjoyed the dance performance in a pin-drop silence.

At the end of the dance, the region's eminent dancer and regional president of dance artistes' association Hasib Panna spoke to the audience. Eminent columnist and journalist Kamal Lohani also attended the concluding day as the chief guest.
