Shah Alam died at a local hospital last night after locals led by the Imam of a mosque at Raghunathpur village in Jhikargachha upazila attacked the Ahmedia Muslim mosque after the Jumma prayers, said a report of the BBC Bangla service last evening.

Pressing the Ahmedia community to change their belief, locals at one point attacked the minority Muslim sect injuring Alam seriously, it added.

Local administration told the BBC Bangla service that additional police were deployed at the village to avoid any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, Alam's wife filed a case accusing 12 persons including the Imam who led the attack.

But police failed to arrest anyone till filing of the report, BBC told quoting local administration.
