Customs officers' strike halts activities at Benapole port

Export and import through Benapole landport remained suspended yesterday following work abstention by the customs officials.

The customs officials went on the work stoppage protesting attack on one of their colleagues by a C&F agent employee in the morning, leaving hundreds of trucks, carrying onion and other essential commodities, stranded.

Port sources said Mintu, manager of C&F Agent Sathi Trade International, attacked the customs officer following a dispute over releasing a product inspected by a PSI company.

However, the import-export resumed in the late afternoon after a meeting between Customs Commissioner Mohammad Shahabuddin and C&F Agents Association leaders where the association leaders assured of taking legal action against Mintu.
