Fast bowler Mashrafee-bin-Mortuza is due to fly off to Dhaka this morning to have his injured knee assessed by a specialist."We are sending him to Dhaka where Col. Jahangir of the Combined Military Hospital will have a second MRI scan of his knee to see the extent of damage," said team manager Lt. Col. (Retd) MA Latif Khan yesterday. Just after lunch on day three of the second Test, the 20-year-old's right knee gave way when he was in his bowling follow-through. He went down clutching the knee and had to be carried off the field. An MRI was done at a local diagnostic centre and the report was later sent to Col. Jahangir who is a specialist in the relevant field. But that first scan was reportedly not conclusive and that's why the fast bowler had to be moved to Dhaka. "We are not in a position to comment on his condition until the specialist in Dhaka has seen Mashrafee. But hopefully it won't keep him out of action for too long, He did come to the ground today and that speaks of his mental strength," added Latif. However, the bowler himself was cautious in his expectations. "The last time I injured my knee, I could walk rather normally and even run a bit," said Mashrafee who had a protective strapping on his injured knee, before leaving the MA Aziz Stadium. The Bangladesh team will be staying back in Chittagong and prepare for the first of three one-day internationals beginning on November 7. England meanwhile will leave the port city today for Dhaka and come back a day before the first ODI.
