Hasina congratulates Badawi

Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Awami league President Sheikh Hasina yesterday congratulated Dato Seri Abdullah bin Ahmad Badawi on his assumption of the office of the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

"The new Prime Minister of Malaysia will lead the country towards more development following the footsteps of his predecessor," she hoped in a message to the new Malaysian leader.

Hasina also sent a farewell message to former Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamad on his voluntary retirement which, she said, is a 'good example' set by the 'architect' of modern Malaysia who fought against terrorism and fundamentalism.

She said the wise leadership and bold decisions of Mahathir would remain as a source of inspiration for the peace-loving people of the world, especially the Muslim Ummah.

Hasina wished peace, progress and prosperity of the Malaysian people hoping that the friendly relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the days ahead.
