The Awami League (AL) yesterday blamed the government for its failure to reduce the prices of daily essentials.Addressing a rally, AL General Secretary Abdul Jalil said the people are passing their days through economic hardships as prices of all edible items continued to rise. The rally was organised by Awami Jubo League, youth front of the AL, at Bangabandhu Avenue to protest the price spiral of daily essentials. Jalil said every sphere of public life has been badly affected due to misrule of the coalition government led by BNP. He said the ruling party men are now busy in building up their fortunes through illegal ways and huge public money has already misappropriated by them. Jalil also reiterated the allegation that the government is using the Speedy Trial Tribunals to repress the political opponents. Party presidium member Motia Chowdhury said the declining law and order is a major reason for price hike of essentials as businessmen have to pay tolls to the ruling party backed extortionists as well as to law enforcers. Dr Mizanur Rahman presided over the rally addressed by Obaidul Kader, Mukul Bose, Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya and Romesh Roy.
