Heart to heart
Selim and Rosy
The exuberant couple in the drama lane

After popular drama personalities like Humayun Faridee, Afzal Hussain and Shubarna Mustafa, the emergence of some new talents was good news for the audience. Shahiduzzaman Selim, being one of them, has been contributing remarkably to both the stage and TV dramas.

Selim started his acting career when he was a student of Jahangirnagar University and was founder member of "Jahangirnagar Theatre", and in 1983, he joined the Dhaka Theatre. It was not so easy for him at the beginning as he had no support from the family. But, when he began to perform on T.V. the family considered it as a matter of pride. Selim's first play on TV was Jonaki Jole.

Rosy Siddique came to this field in the early 90s. After her marriage to Selim, she too joined Dhaka Theatre in 1994. Both are also enlisted performers of Radio Bangladesh.

Electronic medium is Selim's profession now. He is an actor as well as a director. He is one of the owners of a production house named Dream Factory. But stage, has always been his prime passion.

Rosy, however, loves the stage more than the electronic medium. She performed in two feature films Padma Nadir Majhi and Love Story and was well accepted by the audience. As a TV artiste Selim bagged all the awards except BACHSAS. As a stage performer, he got the Cultural Journalists' Association Award for performing in Prachcha. Rosy was nominated for TV plays but she is yet to receive an award for the best performance. Amongst his awards, Selim considers "The best male actor of the year" given by Jay Jay Din and "Meril-Prothom Alo best artiste of the year" from the critics' point of view most remarkable.

Selim is content with his performance in all the plays of Dhaka Theatre and on television his favourite plays are -- Chhaya Shikari and House Wife. Rosy is also happy to be a part of all the plays of Dhaka Theatre and her favourite television plays are -- Shindu Saras and Sonar Horin Chai. The couple went to India several times to perform with Dhaka Theatre and they went to Nepal for package programmes also. Selim performed in U.K. being invited by the Bangladeshi expats.

Selim and Rosy think that the upcoming stars Jeetu, Dinar, Joya and Aupi will perform better if they are dedicated to their work. According to Selim, he and his contemporary three actors -- Taukir, Hakim and Zahid are still playing the central roles of the TV plays. Rosy thinks that nobody could take the place of Shubarna and as for her own performance, she is yet to achieve perfection.

With a very busy schedule in hand, Selim tries to spend his free time with his family and thinks that wife Rosy is obviously better than the actress Rosy. The couple does not approve of their two daughters taking part in the performing arts in future but at the same time wouldn't mind if they patronised them.
